Melanie Windl
works on the intersection of sound, video, sculpture and space.
Windl merges these various levels to complex audio-visual environments. Simple objects serially assembled form large biomorphic structures. They contain groups of sound-transmitters playing multi-channel audio-compositions. For the composition process Windl creates her own sonic material during research sessions in the sound-lab. The artist also collects field recordings during extensive journeys in different countries of the world. In recent artworks the artist began to integrate different methods of interactivity into her work aiming to hand over the process of compositing to the audience itself. Thereby Windl creates open, inviting and immersive artificial environments.
