JAPAN + INDIA – FROM THERE AND HERE – ALLI-ILLI – ACHI‐KOCHI｜PARADISE AIR + 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery

PARADISE AIR in Matsudo, Japan and 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery in Bengaluru, India. The two artist-in-residencies have been collaborating and building a relationship since 2017.

PARADISE AIR has so far invited three artists from Bengaluru – Suresh Jayaram, Sandeep TK and Aishwaryan K – to Matsudo. In addition, three artists from Matsudo – Junpei Mori, Shun Owada and Kenji Kodaira – were sent to 1Shanthiroad Studio/Gallery.
After three years of Japanese and Indian artists travelling to each other’s cities, working in residencies, engaging in conversation and deepening their understanding of each other’s cultures, the 2020 year of pandemic has arrived. In this project, the six artists who have travelled so far will present works based on their experiences in their respective cities.

The words ‘THERE AND HERE (English)’, ‘ALLI-ILLI (Kannada)’ and ‘ACHI‐KOCHI (Japanese)’ in the title all have a meaning of here and there.
Free travel is still difficult, but the free flow of imagination is possible. We invite you to visit our two exhibitions (+ online video documentation), one there and one here.
