During her stay at PARADAISE AIR, dancer/artist asamicro spent her days walking around town, practicing and documenting her dances in parks and open spaces. She creates works under the theme of “breakfast and morning time”. On the last day of her residency, she gave a performance in front of Matsudo Station for about 30 minutes from 4:00 a.m., before the first train started running. The large cloth used in the performance was set in place by her at the end of the performance, and a curtain appeared on the pedestrian deck in front of the station, fluttering in the wind. The performance was recorded and filmed at the same time as it was performed, and the URL to the video, as with curtains, was displayed and shown for 24 hours only.
Before the town wakes up, breathing Exercise #1
I would often be warned that my breathing was shallow because of the lack of acidity in lessons and rehearsals.
This performance reviews breathing in daily life and experiments through dance what kind of movements can carry more oxygen into the body and to see if the exhale movement calls for inhalation, for a body that is not able to take in air (oxygen) well, which you have an equal right to breathe.
For asamicro, the pink curtain is a filter that protects oneself from the public eye, and like the masks worn to prevent airborne droplet infection, it is also a mask for the mind. I will ask questions about the safety of masks in the world and the fetters (obstacles to action) created by their protection, and confirm their movement. During the performance, I attempt to connect myself with the atmosphere of the place by gradually separating the curtains from my body.
Finally, the installation of curtains in the town creates a window-like spot in the space and raises questions about the importance of ventilation of the mind.asamicro
