Tomoco Kawaguchi

Tomoco Kawaguchi is a theater director, born in 1983. Graduate of Tokyo Gakugei University’s master’s program.

Tomoco creates theatrical works in collaboration with artists of various styles based on her meticulous reading of the text. Her representative activities include “Absolute” project (2013-2017), which created a creative platform for artists in Japan and Hong Kong, and “Cleansed Project,” which produced four different performances from one play. A contemporary punk opera “4.48 PSYCHOSIS” (written by Sarah Kane) will be performed in Tokyo and Kitakyushu in March 2020 and in the UK in May 2020. In 2021, Tomoco will direct an opera newly-written by Yoko Towada.
