Yuki Jungesblut

As an artist I explore the boundaries between fiction, imagination and reality using photography, text, installation or film. I am fascinated by transitional and threshold phenomena, the not quite fixed, the imperfect and the hybrid. I wonder how meaning is constructed in a rapidly changing world. In my work I create “material thought spaces”, which often centre on one particular question but which open up this question to a field of associations, where observations, shifts and translations interplay and the implied, the understated and the comical invite the viewers on their own journey of discovery and understanding. Essentially my work is that of a dream researcher, an ongoing quest to recuperate the worlds of dreams, of literature, of the cinema. By looking at and recording the everyday – whilst remembering and forgetting – I seek to understand better what it is that makes us human and possibly carve out a little space of hope and the poetic. Yuki Jungesblut studied natural sciences and social psychology at the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics. Subsequently she studied Visual Communication at Kunsthochschule Kassel, initially aiming to become a film maker. Now as an artist she combines her multiple interests in what she calls freestyle research, mediating between aesthetic play and the pursuit of myth and fiction and a critical analysis of constellations.
